The fascinating back-and-forth between composition and improvisation has always been part of music history, feeding off each other in various ways. The project ‘les Grandes Portugaises’, run by the Grenoble Conservatory, aims to bring this relationship into the present, bringing together contemporary composition and various improvisational experiments. Students at the conservatory, directed by François Raulin, will play improvised pieces as well as pieces written by composition students in the class of Arnaud Petit.
