Through the looking glass between jazz and oriental music

Born to Syrian parents in Paris, the young flautist Naissam Jalal left France at 19 to travel the Mediterranean bassin in search of her roots. She enriched her musical culture alongside great traditional masters. Back to France, she created « The Rhythms of Resistance » with musicians from France, Hungary, Moroco and Germany in order to create a committed oriental jazz nurtured with her encounters. Here, the rhythmic awareness and the enthousiastic improvisations enable the connections between jazz and academic music, european and oriental music as many crossings of the looking glass between aesthetics.
